Ticks that spread Lyme disease are here!

By May 5, 2016 February 21st, 2017 Uncategorized

Ticks that spread Lyme disease have been found in Hamilton. Dogs show several different forms of the disease, but by far, the most common symptoms are a feverlameness, swelling in the joints, swollen lymph nodes, lethargy, and loss of appetite. Although not common, some dogs have developed severe progressive kidney disease as sequelae to Lyme disease.

It is important to keep your pet protected from this disease by using topical or oral preventives against the ticks – ask us what is best for your pet. There is also an effective vaccine for dogs against Lyme disease that we recommend for all dogs that will be in common tick areas.Ticks are found in grassy, wooded, and sandy areas. They find their way onto an animal by climbing to the top of a leaf, blade of grass, or short trees, especially cedar trees.
